  • 3-day birding itinerary: Urugua-i – San Sebastian de la Selva – San Pedro – Salto Encantado.
  • Great as a birding-packed add-on mini trip after the bustle and spectacle of Iguazú.

2 San Sebastian de la Selva > Las Araucarias PP (San Pedro)
3 Cruce Caballero PP > Salto Encantado

Day 1

  • AM Route 101 through Iguazu National Park with numerous birding stops to San Sebastian de la Selva
  • 12.00 Arrive San Sebastian,
  • Lunch
  • PM Birding on San Sebastian trails
  • Evening meal. Overnight San Sebastian

Day 2

  • AM Early breakfast. Birding on San Sebastian trails
  • Lunch.
  • PM Transfer (2 hours) to San Pedro
  • Late afternoon at Araucarias PP – watch Vinaceous-breasted Amazons come into roost.
  • Evening meal. Overnight Swiss-style cabins (San Pedro)

Day 3

  • 06.00 Rush breakfast
  • Transfer to Cruce Caballero PP (requires 4×4 transport – included)
  • AM Birding Cruce Caballero main trail
  • 12.00 Packed lunch
  • PM Transfer to Salto Encantado
  • Birding Salto Encantado trail
  • 17.30 Transfer to San Pedro (or other destination)

    5-day birding itinerary: Iguazú – San Sebastian – San Pedro – Moconá or Salto Encantado



1 Iguazú National Pk
2 – 3 San Sebastian de la Selva
4 Cruce Caballero PP and Las Araucarias PP (San Pedro)
5 Option: Salto Encantado or Mocona

– Day 1
06.00 Hotel pick-up for “early bird” birding on Route 101 before Iguazu National Park opens.
08.00 Arrive at Iguazu Park main entrance.

AM Walk Macuco Trail (5.4km return trip) birding along the way.
12.30 approx return to visitor centre. Lunch.

PM To Garganta del Diablo station and visit Garganta del
Diablo Falls – walking one way, either out or back, increases birding
time through an interesting wetland area.

17.00 Park entrance pick-up for transfer to San Sebastian de la Selva
19.00 Arrive San Sebastian. Dinner
Overnight: San Sebastian lodge

– Day 2
AM Birding on San Sebastian trails
12.30 Lunch in San Sebastian lodge area
PM Birding on San Sebastian trails
18.30 Dinner at lodge
Overnight: San Sebastian lodge

– Day 3
06.30 Quick breakfast, then a full morning birding on San Sebastian trails
through extensive bamboo forest
12.30 Lunch in lodge
15.30 Afternoon birding on Urugua-i Provincial Park R-101 trail
17.00 Leave for San Pedro (150km)
19.30 Dinner in San Pedro (Parrillada El Guri)
Overnight: Los Suizos cabins

– Day 4
note: this day requires 4×4 transport (included)
06.00 Early start for Cruce Caballero Provincial Park
07.00 Birding on Cruce Caballero Provincial Park main trail
12.30 Snack lunch (included) in Cruce Caballero
15.30 Afternoon in Araucaria Provincial Park, San Pedro.
19.00 Evening meal in San Pedro.
Overnight: Los Suizos cabins

Day 5
06.00 Transfer to one of the following options:
Salto Encantado waterfall and reserve
Saltos de Mocona falls
– As both of theses areas have good birding, our last day’s
destination depends quite a lot on local conditions – mainly the
weather and if the falls at Moconá are visible .

18.00 End services at location of your choice in Puerto Iguazú (or other in radius – eg. Posadas)
